Guest Welcome Pack.

Jeremy and Amanda

We moved to Croatia from the UK for a complete change of lifestyle. We love North Croatia . . . and we are happy to share our enthusiasm and experience with our guests. We have traveled all over Croatia, mostly to places where tourists often do not go, so please ask us for advice on interesting destinations and activities during your stay at The Old Oak House.

We look forward forward to seeing you here in Varaždin county

Welcome to Old Oak House part of our home in this peaceful corner of Zargorje close by the beautiful town of Varaždin. This welcome pack is here to help you get acquainted with the area and your holiday apartment. We have uploaded our 10 years of local area knowledge to help you enjoy your stay. It includes recommended restaurants, walks, cycle rides, things to do as well as the usual useful information and some operating instructions. You will find a copy of this guide in the home, which you are welcome to take out with you during your stay so you need not print this out.

 Your Apartment

Stara Kuća or Old House is a traditional oak built home we found in the village of Majur a few miles from the Bosnian border where it had been abandoned since the Homeland War 1991-95.   We found it in 2012 in a sad state of decay and set about relocating and restoring this fine example of Croatian craftsmanship and heritage before it was lost forever.  It retains many of its original features but has been equipped to a high standard to ensure you have a comfortable stay.

Arrival and Departure Information

Check-in time is 3pm.  We can sometimes arrange an early check-in so please contact us if you will arrive early and we'll do our best.  Also, please let us know if you will be later than planned.  You will be checked in by ourselves or Valentina our House Manager.   Occasionally, for instance if arriving late, you will be expected to let yourselves in using the digital lock code and we will meet up with you at the earliest opportunity.

We must register your stay with the Tourist Board upon your arrival.  This is done by taking a photo copy of your passport / ID document and details of your point of entry to Croatia and home town.

Check-out time

Checking out  time is strictly 11 am.  Should you require a later check-out we will do our best but you need to let us know in advance.  If we have guests arriving that day it will be almost impossible to offer a late stay as our cleaner will need to prepare for those guests.
